Topographic Changes Before and After the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake in Kaiso, Monzen-machi, Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture
The 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake caused significant uplift along the northern coast of the peninsula due to the displacement of offshore active faults. AIST had been conducting surveys on coastal uplift traces prior to this earthquake and had taken numerous photographs of the coastal area. This allowed them to capture the topographic changes by taking the photographs at same locations after the earthquake. At Kaiso, Monzen-machi, Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture, where approximately 4 m of uplift occurred, a comparison of photographs taken on April 2, 2007 (pre-earthquake) and May 10, 2024 (post-earthquake) reveals the formation of a new marine terrace. For details, refer to Shishikura (pages 1–27).

Location of scarps potentially formed by recent faulting in the middle reach of the Fujikawa River, Yamanashi Prefecture
High-resolution topography obtained from airborne-LiDAR in the middle reach of the Fuji River, Yamanashi Prefecture, illuminates scarps that may be products of recent faulting at three locations indicated by rectangle frames. They occur in close proximity to and parallel to the Minobu Fault, which has recently been identified as an active fault. Those scarps are found only on terrace surfaces that are less susceptible to erosion and burial, or on gentle slopes of mountain summits that have been saved from erosion. In the mountainous areas extending from these scarps, numerous landslides and slope failures have developed extensively. Even if active faults existed, significant erosion and burial may have preserved only a small portion of their topographic evidence. For details, see Maruyama (pages 29–37).
